TITLE: Liminal Space
Madhvi’s work demarcates the liminal or transitional spaces at OPP Alexandra Point bus stop and the nearby Gillman Barracks walkway. The bus stop becomes a point of pause and expectation, serving as an interlude between waiting and passage. The walkway brings one from the “outside” (the bus stop) to the “inside” (the art galleries). The white mappings are inspired by Alexandra Road’s history, and the white, ritualistic rice flour Kolam drawings from the Tamil tradition. These ephemeral drawings are made with dots and continuous lines forming mandala-like patterns to welcome the new day or an auspicious occasion.
Madhvi will draw daily at dawn or dusk on the walkway during SAW2021.
